Artist's Statement

I have lived in the Kennebec River Valley all my life. I am inspired by the amazing light, natural beauty and wild life of this area. Whether it is the ledge-lined banks of the Maine coast or the lush woodlands that lie beyond, the colors and textures here are the building blocks used in my images.

I prefer to work with water media in a wet-in-wet format. This organic process provides opportunity for me to work intuitively. Color and texture are important elements in my work. I frequently begin by using a process called decalcomania, which was first used by surrealist artist, Oscar Dominguez. I apply plastic wrap to wet pigment giving an image rich texture, which can be developed once it is dry.
